More then 30 years
ago a group enthusiastic actors in Slochteren started playing costume-plays in front of
the Fraeylemaborg. The elegant castle and the surrounding park appeared to be excellent
suited as decor for playing costume-plays in the open. The group volunteers give each year
again a lot of their spare time to bring the play to a success. Not only the actors, but
also the costumers, the make-up cosmeticians, scouting club Slochteren and the people for
light & sound, everybody gives everything for making a successful performance. The
last years they play in the 4e weekend of June.
All performers have a few things in common:
+
their enthusiasm for the theatre.
+ their bond with the theatre club.
+ their bond with the Fraeylemaborg.
With
a changing members it was possible to organize a open air play for already
30 years in
row. Many productions have been played in front of the borg, but sometimes they went to
the forest and water-ponds behind the castle. This forest and the water-ponds gave some
plays just the environment that it needed. Since the beginning of the productions good
care is taken for the public. Tribunes are build to let every visitor see the play in full
glory. Disabled people taken in account. And most times a performance ends not before
having drink where public and players together toast on the successful and pleasant
performance.
